This study analyzes the application of the Maria da Penha Law by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), focusing on trials involving authorities with jurisdiction by prerogative of office. It examines the role of the Special Court and the contributions of Justice Antonio Carlos Ferreira, particularly in Criminal Case No. 943/DF, highlighting the incorporation of a gender perspective and the defense of the victim’s dignity. The text demonstrates how the STJ’s jurisprudence consolidated a protective and teleological interpretation of the law, reinforcing material equality between the genders and dispelling discriminatory stereotypes. It also highlights persistent challenges, such as underreporting, institutional revictimization, and the need for integrated and preventive public policies to eradicate domestic and family violence against women.
